Our People

Capsicum Culinary Studio was founded by Cheryl Nesbitt, a qualified Hotel Manager and experienced member of the Culinary Industry.  Cheryl studied Hotel Management at the Witwatersrand Hotel School in Johannesburg and gained 8 years of hotel experience.

Leaving the Protea Hotel Group in 1991 as a Deputy General Manager, she started Country Catering, an extremely successful Event Management and Catering Company.  After 7 years, Cheryl sold the business and ventured into the training world.  Cheryl joined Varsity College as their lead lecturer and relocated to Cape Town to head up their National Hotel Management Division.  She then joined the International Colleges Group (INTEC and Damelin) in the position of Cape Town Branch Manager, moving up to National Sales Manager and later Business Manager.

After extensive market research, Cheryl discovered there was an unmet need for a reasonably priced, reasonable time commitment cooking school.  All too often, applicants in South Africa had been disheartened by the number of up-market, exclusively priced cooking schools which effectively prevented potential students from realising their dreams because of cost or low value to cost ratios.

Cheryl approached Miranda Haricharan, the Executive Chef for the Legacy Group of Hotels in the Cape Town Waterfront, whom she had studied with at Hotel School, to join her in the formation of an affordable, creative, fun and accredited cooking school she was about to start.

And so, in October 2003, Capsicum Culinary Studio was born!

More recently, Cheryl appointed Claudia Katz as the new CEO of Capsicum Culinary Studio, to take the management team of Capsicum Culinary Studio to greater hights!
