On Thursday 10 October 2013, Capsicum Culinary Studio hosted a Grade 12 Cooking Competition for learners that have the passion and energy for cooking. The schools that took part in the Capsicum cook-off were Plumstead High School, Rhodes High School, Pinelands High School, Sans Souci Girls High School, Spine Road High School, South Peninsula High School, The Settlers High School and Heathfield High School.
There were two aspiring young chefs in each team and they were tasked with preparing a starter and a main meal using Beef Sirloin and Chicken Breast as the core ingredients found in their mystery boxes. The learners had one hour to prepare their meals and present their dishes to the Capsicum judging panel. The judging was based on taste, texture and appearance.
The judges were very impressed with the overall level of cooking, and Simone Le Roux and Tharwat Samuels from The Settlers High School walked away as the winners of the cook-off.
