Tamzyn Ehlers and Sebastian Newman from our Cape Town Culinary Campus recently won the ClemenGold Patisserie School Competition. Patisserie Schools from around South Africa were invited to enter the ClemenGold competition, which required students to create a cake or pastry using at least three fresh ClemenGolds and as many fresh ClemenGold elements as possible. They had to create the dish, take a photo and send it off with the recipes.
The recipes and images were uploaded to the ClemenGold Facebook page, and friends and fans were encouraged to vote for the best looking treats. The top five desserts with the most votes (likes) made it through to the final round where they were professionally prepared and taste tested.
As the proof really is in the pudding, a panel of judges blind tasted all the dishes and from the results of this round, the overall winners were selected. The judging panel consisted of Michelle Kruger (ClemenGold Brand Director), Patrick Moreau (Cassis – Master Pastry Chef) and Vickie de Beer (Food Editor Rooi Rose).
We are incredibly proud of Capsicum Cape Town students Sebastian Newman and Tamzyn Ehlers, who were crowned the overall winners for their magnificent dessert – The Citrus Stack. Congratulations to you both, you are true champions, with a bright future ahead of you. Not only did Capsicum Culinary Studio take the first place, to sweeten the deal even more, Capsicum’s Durban campus was awarded the fourth and fifth place as well. Congratulations to Capsicum Durban students, Naeelah Valley (4th place), Serena Pillay and Chanelle Reddy (5th place).
