Capsicum Culinary Studio, South Africa’s largest chef school, hosted a successful cook-off event at its Sunninghill campus in Johannesburg on 26 May 2016.
Media guests and students teamed up to “slice, sizzle and serve” up a locally-inspired dish which was demonstrated by well-known Chef, Jodie-Anne Pearton.
Chef Jodie-Anne continues to make her mark on the culinary World and has won almost every competition in the country. She has been actively involved in the South African Chefs Association (SACA) since 2003 and by becoming a director hopes to inspire young people in the industry to grow their careers.
The dish was developed especially for the event and after a quick demo by Chef Jodie, the teams started their cook and the best interpretation of the concept and ingredients emerged victorious.
The idea behind the concept is to expose guests to the immersive experience of being in an industry-relevant kitchen and getting a tangible ‘feel’ for what it would be like in industry. Partnering up with a chef student also allowed the students to gain experience in a different dimension of the culinary industry.
It was an event that promised an afternoon of interactive fun, and delivered on that!
