Capsicum Culinary Studio, Cape Town campus moved to new premises. We are now situated in the iconic Rex Trueform Building in Salt River. To celebrate the move, we hosted a grand opening combined with an extraordinary salt experience.
The guest list included Chefs from Industry, Industry partners, Suppliers, Sponsors and Partners. The students and lecturers from the Cape Town campus wowed guests with amazing canapés – Chicken Avocado and Radish with Smoked Salt; Cured Salmon with Oyster Mayo, Beef Carpaccio with Peach Chutney and Brie. If that was not enough, the evening ended off with Salted Caramel Macaroons, Chilli Salt Chocolate Truffles and Salted Caramel Panna Cotta.
The evening included a Paris-Brest demonstration from Executive Chef Alfred Henry from the Cape Sun Hotel, a salt and wine pairing sponsored by Altydgedacht Wine Estate and a mixture of Fruits with Salt Taste Experience, by Academic Manager, Chef Deon Roets. A special thanks to Capsicum’s salt sponsor, Cerebos, who sponsored their Falksalt range for the evening. Each guest walked away with a Falksalt gift.
Throughout the ages, salt has been used as a valuable trade commodity. Not only has it shaped common expressions but has always been the key ingredient in cooking. Similar to salt being essential to cooking, Capsicum Culinary Studio is essential in Culinary Education. A “grain of salt” may be a recipe for skepticism, but there can be no doubt about how salt has seasoned history. Now it is time for Capsicum Culinary Studio to make history in Salt River.
